Boilerplate

Three lengths. Pick one.

Copy and paste verbatim, or rewrite as needed.

Short — one sentence

Halopen is a native macOS dictation app. Hold the function key, talk anywhere a cursor goes — every contraction, every intensifier, every code-switch, captured carefully. Built by Meria LLC.

Medium — one paragraph

Halopen is a native macOS dictation app built around an unfashionable idea: write down what the speaker actually said. Hold the function key, talk in any app — Mail, Notes, Terminal, Cursor — and the text appears at your cursor. Verbatim accuracy by default; polish on your terms. Free forever for 8,000 words a month, $19/month for unlimited Pro. Universal binary, macOS 14.0+. Made by Meria LLC.

Long — two paragraphs

Halopen is a native macOS dictation app that captures what you said — every contraction, every intensifier, every bilingual code-switch — and writes it at your cursor in any app on your Mac. The product is built around an unfashionable claim: a dictation tool should preserve the speaker. Halopen defaults to verbatim. Polish remains available on the user's terms — a choice, not a default. The transcription engine handles disfluencies natively, the live partial preview shows what's about to be typed before you let go, and the system-wide hotkey hands the words to whatever app your cursor is in. Halopen is a Universal binary that runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) and Intel Macs. Sign-in is via Sign in with Apple, Google, or email/password. Free tier is 8,000 words a month, forever. Pro is $19/month or $179/year for unlimited dictation. Halopen is a product of Meria LLC.

Quote

For attribution.

"Halopen captures the speaker's actual register — contractions, intensifiers, code-switches, the rhythm of how the sentence was actually said — and lets the user choose what happens next. The product is the choice."
— Jesse Meria, founder of Halopen

Usage notes

  • App icon: use as is. Don't recolor, don't apply a drop shadow (the icon is already lit from within), don't flatten the squircle to a square.
  • Wordmark: "Halopen" set in Source Serif 4 SemiBold. Letter-spacing tightened to -0.014em. Always one word, always uppercase H.
  • Pronunciation: "HAL-oh-pen" or "HAY-loh-pen" — both work. Two syllables, six characters.
  • Brand colors: warm cream paper (#FAFAF7), warm graphite (#0B0A07), and the cyan→periwinkle→magenta gradient (#66D9FF → #A68CFF → #F28CF2).

Story angles

Three frames for the story.

Halopen is more interesting from these angles than "another voice typing app."

  1. Angle one

    The verbatim manifesto.

Halopen captures what was actually said — contractions, intensifiers, code-switches — and lets the user choose what happens next. The thesis is unfashionable on purpose. Read the manifesto.

  2. Angle two

Native Mac, in tens of megabytes.

Halopen is a menu-bar app with a hold-to-talk hotkey, written in Swift, using Apple's first-party Speech and AppKit APIs. It idles in tens of megabytes, near-zero CPU. It does work only while you hold the key.

  3. Angle three

Voice typing that respects the technical work.

Halopen has dedicated dictation profiles for AI coding tools, terminals, and modern editors — voice typing that preserves the precision required by code commits, terminal prompts, and AI coding sessions. Built by an independent maker for the workflows he uses every day.
